Try to imagine the difficult task of pitching a movie like the upcoming Cloud Atlas. “It’s a movie based on a book about everything that could possibly happen at any time in history at any place in the world and it’ll start 90 percent of Hollywood’s biggest names.”
Quite the undertaking.
But despite the convoluted storylines and overlapping characters, the beauty of this movie lies in how all these pieces come together.
Based on the novel by David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas is six interwoven stories spanning from an 1849 ship voyage to a post-apocalyptic Hawaiian island.
If you have any doubt this movie is going to be phenomenal, watch the trailer. Not only does the cast boast greats like Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon, but the cinematography showcased in the six-minutes extended trailer is breathtaking (credit to the same guys who did Run Lola Run and The Adjustment Bureau).
And the writing is just as compelling. “We cross and recross our old tracks like figure skaters.” That’s setting the stage for thousands of Facebook statuses and tweets.
You can find out how “everything is connected” on October 26.
